HI. I'm Lucia. I am an artist, born and raised in South Africa, making home with my husband and four daughters in New Zealand since 2017.
At the age of 5 my first grade teacher proclaimed that I must be an artist, after viewing a cartoon depiction of a backwards elephant I doodled on my school work. My friends stared at my drawing, amazed and wanting to know how I managed to draw this cute creature. From that day forward my mind was set that I must be an artist.
By the age of 12 my parents ordered me an oil painting kit, complete with canvasses, brushes, paints, palettes and an instruction booklet for four different artworks.
After completing each painting I would stand back, amazed that the piece of art I was viewing was created with my hands. I filled sketchbooks and canvasses and begged my parents to allow me to experiment painting on the walls of my bedroom. My parents agreed and I filled my bedroom walls with works of art depicting sunny stretched out beaches, palm trees and people basking in the sun all around me. At the time we lived on a cattle farm, in a cold small town, far removed from the sunny beaches and palm trees I depicted in my art. With the art I painted on my walls I created my own dream world, depicting places and feelings I wanted to experience...
I loved having the freedom of painting straight onto the walls and so my very first mural was completed by the time I was 13.
